Article Critique

[edit]

Hi, I just want to make some suggestions for the page.

  • References 4 through 6 are identical and can be condensed into one source. That one source can be used as a reference each time it is used.
  • The information referring to the invention of the con-focal microscope was connected with the topic, but it may be more suited for a separate "History" category.
  • While I know this article is only a stub, it can be organized much better. For instance, the information on C. elegans in the introduction is interesting, but a tangent of the intended discussion. The "Studies of Cell Lineage" section serves as an all-inclusive category for explaining cell lineage. However, it gives mostly random background information. The label of this category would be better called "History". A section about the studies and research involving cell lineage should include current research or major uses for the concept.
  • In the introduction, an uneducated person may be confused by what marking the cell means, but this can be described further by saying something such as: "...by marking a cell (with fluorescent molecules or other traceable markers)and following its progeny...".

While C. elegans is a huge component of cell lineage research, I think that it is over-represented here, and to balance the article out, research on other cell lineages should be included. As well as over representation, the sources on C. elegans are over 35 years out-of-date. Lharrison187 (talk) 14:34, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Name of article: Cell lineage I've found this topic in lecture quite intriguing and want more information about it so I can better distinguish it from fate mapping. Lead Guiding questions A little more information, about cell linage, such as what separates it from fate mapping. The diagram shown doesn't show me cell to cell connection. Such that I would know which cell came from which cell. To show basically a family tree which gives a better description. Insufficient amount of information about C.elegans, such that how does knowing the number of cells and neurons play a role in cell lineage.

Lead evaluation Content Guiding questions .The content is up to date and shows relevant information and reference to support the topic. However, the content is missing relevant information as stated above. Such information includes the family tree type cell to cell information which would give a better description of cell linage.

Content evaluation

Tone and Balance Guiding questions There showed a heading which indicated "Techniques of Fate Mapping" yet the article is based on cell linage which confuses me. In the heading it states fate mapping, but in the text it talks about cell linage. Fate mapping shouldn't have a title of its own but she just be mentioned to be able to distinguish it from cell linage. Also C.elegans are overrepresented in the article, where it should of been more focused on cell linage.

Tone and balance evaluation Sources and References Guiding questions Sources and facts are all reliable and proven to work from reliable sources and sites. They gravitate towards the topic of discussion and obtains valuable information regarding the topic. They content contain sources from the 1900's straight to 2019 which is the most recent source which has proven to work.

Sources and references evaluation Organization Guiding questions Information is written well, some parts are concise where others are a bit complexed and filled with words which may not be understandable to a general audience. Some technical terms were used and a definition wasn't given along with the terms which left me a bit confused, someone who have a background in biology, so for someone who doesn't study biology would be lost in the text.

Organization evaluation Images and Media Guiding questions Only one image was given in the article which doesn't truly depict what cell linage is, because after looking at the image I thought i was fate mapping that was being shown when i fact it was actually cell linage. A couple more of images could of been shown, for example C.elegans since it was used as a model organism in Dr. Brenners research.

Images and media evaluation Checking the talk page Guiding questions The introduction where it was too complex and that someone or a general audience would have trouble understanding the biological terms because there is no description in (There are similarities with how wikipedia discusses and how we discussed the topic in class). one main one was the references, where there was overlap of information since in three sites, the information was identical and could have gotten from just one. This article is part of the WikiProjects and has a rated S-class with a low-importance

Talk page evaluation Overall impressions Guiding questions The overall article is sufficient but there are room for improvement. More content is needed and better calcification of terms. More sub headings to separate text and not get lost in reading. The article strength is that there are sufficient information, but its not organized and just in one huge heading. After evaluating the article, i would say that the article is underdeveloped and could use some revisiting.
